I can't believe nobody has posted a thing about the race yet!

But anyway... I got an E-mail from Bass Pro Shops this morning and since Jamie McMurray got 1st, all orders over $100 are $1 shipping.

Congrats to Jamie Mac, I will say I loved to see the BPS grabbin the checkers in a race again. No matter who was drivin it, I just like the car.

The whole Pothole deal was funky, but it gave me a little extra nap as I woke up early and watched the race. Looks like new surface for Daytona will be scheduled. Prolly before the Pepsi 400 in July.

A pretty entertaining restrictor plate race in my opinion.

That was a very entertaining race. The pot holes sure drug it out though. I couldn't believe the move Jr. made in the last 3 laps going from 10th to 2nd!!!

Oh yeah, I thought the race was extremely entertaining. The track issue kinda sucked but for a person that don't mind watching that stuff all day long it was fine.

I agree on the new surface but wonder if they will have time to get it done before July. Might just patch it in for now. Don't remember when the world super bike race is but that will play in to I would guess.

Once I see Jr on a couple of down force tracks I'll get excited, was a good points day though.

Sounds like it is going to be a little bit yet before Daytona gets repaved.

They are going to peel up those areas and fix them but they are still looking at 3 years before a complete reworking of the track surface. Just caught a pc of a press confrence from today.

I have a feeling they may try a progessive high bank system on Daytona when it gets its new surface. They already know if they make it super smooth with sick grip it will turn into Talledega all over and I don't think they want that. A progressive high bank system with maybe only the very highest lane banked 31degrees could make for some interesting lines and more passing.

I'd like to see it tried. Something different.

I think I am going to take advantage of the shipping deal at BPS and buy my first Skeet Reese rod. Now I just have to decide what reel. I am leaning toward a Quantum Code, not too expensive but I nice reel with a Burner. I have used B's and really liked it. Should look good together.

I am going with the 8' Flippin stick. I have always wanted an 8' rod for flippin and pitchin but no store ever has them.

I'll let you know when I get it what I think.

I handled the 7 foot Jig rod at BPS when I was there. I should have just bought it but I thought I'd come back if I didn't find the hunting stuff I wanted, which I didn't and then kind of forgot about it. Nice rod!

But IDK about an 8 footer! Shocked

I had a feeling you might say that.

Can't help it your used to handling a short rod!

(Oh and btw, I made this post just so that someone would say that and then I could use that comeback line.)

Not really, but.

I only handle it when I have to, which ain't very often, but it does the job for us. Very Happy

Seriously though, I was gonna ask if you've ever handled an 8 footer, but then I remembered the Cat Pole! Laughing

I have only fished big 8' rods. Like you say, the cat pole.

I have never fished a rod made for flippin/pitchin. I just can't imagine that it can't be the bomb. Specially for flippin. Allows you to have a lot more line at your disposal.

I am certain it will take some getting used too as it is a very long rod. However, that is kinda my plan. If I was just gonna buy another 7' M or MH rod then I'd just keep the ones I got. They are all working fine, I am just more interested in trying something new.

8 foot is a lot of rod. even with a reel on it they tend to be tip heavy. I am not that tall and 8' just seems like to much rod. I have a 7'6" flipping stick that I hardly ever use. They are good for flipping seeing how tha's what they are made for. But pitching is another story. I personally don't use a rod over 7' for those situations and even then the rod can get in the way.
Maybe you will have better luck than I do, Randy. I assume it is a retractable rod otherwise where you gonna put an 8' rod in your boat?

My boat is 16' long. Should be long enough to hold an 8' rod.

If your thinking about the rod locker, well, who gives a crap about that POS. I hate the rod locker in my boat and the only thing ever in it is the rods I never fish. So chances are this one will be laying out on the deck just like all the rest.
