The Cedar's water probably won't get there until next week either. I just don't see the River dropping that fast. But what do I know Question We will just have to wait and see. We need a draught for a few weeks!

I agree Dave. Hence my reason for the wishful thinking on my part. I am not sure why they think the river will be dropping by the 17th either cause that seems real quick when you consider half the damn state is covered in water. I can't see any way that they will be able to regulate things in the timeframe they are thinking either but I guess all we can do at this point is wait and watch and wait some more until the days go past and are dry or rainy. None of us knows what is truely in store.

I have been looking at the Steamboat Days Celebration going on on the Burlington Riverfront now too. Some how they are going to try and stay and wait it out. They moved some of the midway back a bit from the edge of the river and are going to try sandbagging the entire area of the festival and concerts to see if they can hold it back. To me that is a MAJOR MAJOR risk. Millions of dollars worth of sound equipment, and midway rides and big name bands and 10,000+ people down in an area that should be under water with extremely fast current right next door. Lets say the sandbags give way. The entire area is fence for crowd control and ticket sales. 10,000 people trapped at a Gretchin Wilson concert that get washed into the river does not sound like a good situation to me but they are gonna try it anyways. There is not another ELITE series tournament scheduled until 7/31. I think they better call it now and push it back a week or 2.

Don't forget to mix a little alcohol with those 10,000 people. drunken That always makes for some real good decisions. affraid Doesn't sound like a good combination to me either. I think NL is having their "Fun Days" this weekend. Nothing on the scale of Burlington but at least there isn't a river near where the city puts on the event. But plenty of drunks though! cheers drunken

I like that plan myself. However they better hurry up and do it. My vacation time is gonna be quite tough to get changed at this point with everyone else already having there time scheduled. I really don't wanna have a week off to sit around and pull my pork and then not have the time off when they do have the event.

WHAT A FRIKKIN MESS is really all I can say.

Yep drunks too Dave! The other funny thing that they was talking about is that the festival itself has NO flood insurance so if they would loose the sandbags and such and the place would flood. Most everything would be a total loss. Real smart I would say. Rolling Eyes

Well boys. New river info came out today.

Crest is now higher and going hold at that height longer than they had first predicted.

I figured as much they keep raising the crest levels and time 2 to 3 times a day for both the Iowa and the cedar.

Far as Steamboat Days goes. They are gonna give it a go yet tonight and try to get that concert in but then it sounds like that is going to be it.

If the SBD Committee don't pull the plug on it then the City is considering doing it for them.

So I would guess that Friday,Saturday and Sundays concerts are all off as well. There will be a mass tear down of the midway and all the booths after tonights events. They are finally starting to understand what I have thought. You ain't gonna be able to be safe with 15,000 people protected from a 4' wall of water by sandbags. Rolling Eyes

I-380 has been closed. Radio in CR indicated the Corp may have made an error in their forecast.

WOW! That ain't cool! Hope everyone got where they needed to be!

I was just looking myself. Upped our crest and moved it back another day. They are saying up over 24' now. 25.0 was crest in 93 so we are getting very very close.

380 is not closed. They have made it one lane each way through CR from HIway 30 to County home road N of town. They want to keep one lane for emergency vehicles. If you go here KCRG TV 9 Under where it says FLOOD ALERT: there is a link to watch KCRG live. Pretty interesting.

Looks like boating has now offically been cut off at both McBride and Coralville and any other areas connected to the Iowa and Cedar rivers.

Bummer for those still wanting to get at stuff that maybe they didn't get out yet. Good in the fact that it keeps the sight seeing idiots off the water though. Rolling Eyes
