I just heard on the radio that the man that does the predictions on crests says Iowa City may crest as much as 5 feet higher than what he predicted for whatever reason. He predicted 33 as the latest so it could go to 38 instead. Not good! Shocked

I heard on the Weather Channel a little bit ago that the Levee broke on the Res. just a little bit ago!

God I hope everyone is out of the way!

I tried to call Dave but his phone is off or something. Hope he's alright.

Prayers to IC!

I am OK! Thanks for your concern B.

The levy that was breached is actually the railroad tracks that runs behind several businesses on Hwy 6 ( the east end of the Coralville strip) and water is now pouring out around the motel, Old Chicago and onto hwy 6 across to the UI softball field. Pretty much a big mess. I also heard this AM that the only accessible bridge across the Iowa was the Burlington Street Bridge. But I am not absolutely sure on that one yet.

I went down by the res near my house last night to check on the houses closest to it. There is still 2to 30 ft uphill before the water touches anybodys yard. Doesn't sound like much but it would take quite a bit more water to reach them. "93 levels didn't get there but we will have to see in '08. The water would have to rise a good 20-30 feet to get to my house. If it gets there IC and Coralville especially Corallville would all but be wiped out! Check out KCRG.com and click the link under FLOOD ALERT: for a live web cast of flood coverage.
It also didn't help that ,at least a my house wwe got another 3" of rain. I am praying for a drought!!!!!

Well, the res has reach a new high level. 1993's high was 716.71 it is at 716.75 and still going up. expected crest is 717.5 by next Tues. All bridges over the res and most bridges over the Iowa are closed. I80 bridge is still openbut that is the only east/west access around IC/Coralville.
The UI seent out an email telling all non essential people to stay away from campus with full pay from 6/13-6/23. My wife gets the week off, my son gets the week off (although as a student employee he probably won't get paid) and me. well I have been deemed essential and have to go to work. It sucks to be essential. Bang Head Nobody in our shop thought we would be missed but Noooooooo!!!!!!

On another note we (family) may have to go down to the houses who are closest to the res and help sandbag some neighbors. The water would have to go up considerable to reach us. But I'll make that call next week. Thank God there is dry weather,so far, for all next week!!

Just amazing Dave. I know how you feel on the work deal. No matter what happens or what is going on when everyone else gets to go home. I get to stay! Kinda sucks Bang Head

As for yourself and your family. Man I hope you all stay safe. If you wind up sandbagging sometime over the next 3 days don't hesitate to call cause I don't really have anything going on.

I too just hope the sun will shine for all of you. Would be nice to at least see the water moving the over way.

Well at least on the Coralville Lake site it looks like the res. has crested at 716.92 and is forcasted to start slowly falling. Origionally they had forcasted 717.5. This is good news for people in Coralville/IC area. The river is still not suppose to reach crest until next Tues/Weds. But with the res crested hopefully the river crest will be lower than predicted also.

The lake is falling albeit very slowly . The prediction is 9-10 days before it drops below the spillway.
They did reopen Mehaffey bridge over the res this after noon . Now at least I can look at Macbride and (shiver) fish from the shore. I talk to a guy that was by MB this last weekend and told me the water clarity was actually pretty good considering the back wash from the res. woo hoo

So, what's your idea on how the fishing is going to be in MacBride now? Did they all go down stream? I was thinking those spots might show up most anywhere now.

John, I was catching them(spots) in the Res after the '93 flood. But this time the DNR put up a fence/barricade across the MB dam spillway to try and control the influx/outflow of the rough/game fish and idiot boaters. We will know in a few weeks if it did any good.

Yes, I had read that earlier but didn't know if they actually put one in high enough to do any good. What a Face
