Southeast Iowa Flooding is really starting to take hold

Well the flood is trying to get into blood pressure.

At work we now how to do a Levee Patrol every 4 hours. It's so soft from all the seep water that we have to walk the whole levee which is atleast 3/4 of a mile. We have a couple boils that are about 3 foot in diameter, the first one that was found has been sand bagged. We found another last night that was still blowing clear water so it's supposedly safe, we'll see!

They say if the seep water or boils are running clear water then they OK, it's when they start to run with sand or dirt, which means they are eating away at the levee and is probably growing. We have a small creek running down the inside of our perimeter from all the seep water leeks along the levee.

It sucks walking the levee, but I'm not going to let something happen on my watch, if it starts to leak I'll be letting the proper authorities now about it. There's way to many houses and people for me to get lazy about it, as well as my job. It's kind of scary though, walking down the levee in the middle of the night looking at all the seep water leaks and then splooosh! You step in a big boil out which is like quicksand and can be 2 foot deep or more.

The river did drop last night, a whole .06 between 12 and 4 AM, but that may have been from the levee failingin GulfPort Ill. Question

Ya, I have been thinking, when the levee breaks somewhere, though it is devastating in the immediate area, it actually helps someone else out.

Yeah Branden, be careful for sure. Sounds like a very dangerous situation.

I have heard of another issue that you know I would hate but I would think you would be fighting. SNAKES! The national guard down here are carrying shotguns cause on levee patrols the snakes are sooooo thick with no where to go that they are putting the guys at risk. Dude that would suck for someone like me. Shocked

I have much to say now that I got a computer and working internet back.

Well southeast Iowa is now pretty much an island. Other than 218 being opened back up to the north it is extremely tough to just get off this little corner of the state. Burlington and FT Madison both closed there bridges this morning and Keokuk is preparring to follow. From what I hear you can't cross to the south into Missouri anymore either.

So I guess its go north or go nowhere at this point.

I haven't seen a snake yet along the levee. But I would feel better if I had a shotgun. Smile

I have seen a few ducks with the hatchlings that must need a little calmer water. There is some crazy current right now and being on the Big Bend in the river adds to my worries.

Well I'm not walking the water line either, I'm on the other side of the levee towards the bottom looking at where the water pressure is pushing it through the ground. It still has a couple feet to go to reach the actual top of our levee, which was raised after the 93 flood I believe.
