| I just got my order for rear tire chains and while reading the installation directions I noticed it said don't exceed 5 mph!! I didn't plan on hailing azz with these one but planned to use them while ice fishing when the conditions warrant them. what speeds do you guys roll when the chains are on? on a side note I took the quad out for a run today on the gravel roads around town and got her up to 52 mph... (censored) cold on the nose even with a scarf :D not bad for hauling my big carcass |

| I think Randy's idea of the steel studs are the way to go if you plan on boogying! |

Well Mike, that is exactly why I am hesitant in buying them. I have had some really aggressive ones in my cart a couple times and just can't come to pull the trigger.
I would be seriously concerned about the speed thing. Its all about throwing one off, if you never throw one off you will not have a problem with the speed. However, if you do, it could hurt you or your quad seriously in a hurry. Look at all the stuff going on in the fenders of your quad and see how bad you wanna replace any of it. Then decide how fast you want to go. That's about all I can tell you. I have seen them fly off and it ain't pretty.
Now that said if you buy a good set and they fit the right tire size, the chances aren't great that it would ever fall off. Usually the ones you see fly off are the ones that weren't made to fit that exact tire and application.
Bout all I can really tell ya.

| well I'll error on the side of caution with these. I'll use them for plowing and go uber slow if i use them on the ice |

I love the steel studs. The only problem with steel studs is that you do have to screw them into the tire. In the process it does put holes in your tires, and after years if you do not wear your tires out fast enough to get to fresh rubber. The holes can get big and not hold the studs as well.
Just something else to think about. Like everything there is always pro's and con's.

I think for what you want to do with them they will be just fine. I don't forsee you traveling down the ice that fast with the chains on. If you can go that fast and traction will allow then chances are you do not need the chains to begin with.
Keep us all informed how they work out, if they really are great guns for traction then I may have to make the leap myself.
I love the studs but when the snow gets really deep, they can struggle where chains may not.

| I just wanted to have them in case I need them. like the ice storm we had. it would have been nice to have them. I hope I never need them. |

| The guys I know really into ice fishing have an extra set of fronts for winter only with hex screws in the lugs and put chains on the rear. It would depend on the type of ground you are covering but I would think you could 15, I never go faster than that anyway.
Anyone have a set tof cheap take-offs to fit a Grizzly 450 ?
