Tressa and I waited out the rain today to put up our last treestands. It is sometimes a tricky ride to get back there, especially when hauling 2 people on an ATV (which you should never do by the way! Rolling Eyes ), and a trailer loaded with treestands and other supplies.

It was pretty muddy most of the way back, so we had to use four wheel drive. Once we got to the CRP field, it was much better. However, I knew from the past that there were a couple of washouts coming down through the field, so I was being cautious. The problem was, the weed growth was so thick and nasty, that I had to go strictly on memory. We were doing pretty well, and was halfway through the field when I told my wife I knew there was a good one coming up, but there was a crossing on it. I found the crossing, but unfortunately it was no longer wide enough for a 4 wheeler!

I immediately saw the front right wheel starting to go down. I hit the brakes and looked over to my right and could make out a 3 foot hole/washout that was full of water Shocked ! I told Tressa to hold on, and I put it into reverse. The rest was kind of a blur. The straight down bank I was teetering on, gave out! The wheeler lurched forward and to the right literally tossing Tressa over me and into the ditch. My leg was caught between the handlebar and gas tank for a split second, but I soon went in right on top of her. I was scared the ATV was going to come in on top of us, but the trailer kept it dangling above us, nearly completely on its side! I couldn't believe the Kawasaki just kept running. It never quit.

Kinda scary at first, but we crawled out of the mud and water and just started laughing. We continued on our way, hung the stands, and took a DIFFERANT way home! Laughing

Pretty sure if there would have been a video camera somewhere, it would have made a television show at some time Rolling on floor ! It's always funny when a fat guy falls! We did manage a couple photos of the aftermath. The pics don't do it justice. We had a chance to dry a little. Tressa said I even had mud in my teeth and ears. She said she had it in places it shouldn't be!

Prolly a little scary there for a second Brian, glad it all worked out and you both are Ok. It's kind of like wading out in the water after a duck though, you always know you're taking a chance of getting wet and muddy, and always hope it doesn't happen. Stories like that always make good campfire stories later. fire

Hopefully it all pays off with a monster buck, or at least some meat in the freezer.

Oh and how's come the boat always becomes a storage area once hunting season comes? lol

Good to hear everything worked out for the best Brian. I have been there and done that and seen it happen a lot.

Looking forward to seeing the hunts as well.

Thats pretty funny actually. There are a few things (like the cooler) that end up most of the summer just going back and forth between the ATV and its trailer, and the boat. Depending on what I am using at the time. I am done with the ATV until deer season, so I will move all that crap to it so I can use the boat! lol!

That had to be pretty scary at least till you found out you were both OK.
You must of had to do some work to get it out of that mess!
